Powder Coating and the Environment

Vivid Powder Coating Lismore is committed to environmental sustainability by using green production methods, reducing material waste and recycling to protect our environment now and for the future. We use products and processes that are one of the cleanest options on the market today and meet the Australian standards set to ensure the most outstanding care for the environment. We believe in sustainability and strive to reduce our effect on the environment where possible.

A “Greener Technology”

The powder coating product itself is considered a “green” technology not liquid-based, nor solvent-based, or contains levels of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) and produces no hazardous air pollutants (HAPs), fumes, or dangerous gases. The powder coat is applied using an electrostatic spray deposition (ESD) , a spray gun, that applies an electrostatic charge to the powder particles, which are then attracted to the grounded part, dramatically reducing overspray, less wastage. Parts that are powder coated via (ESD) must then be cured in a powder curing oven.

There are many environmental advantages of powder coating. Since there are no solvents or VOCs, there is no damage to the environment during application. Powder Coat does not contain hazardous chemicals like wet paints usually do. Wet paint can contain harmful chemicals that have been proven to deplete the ozone and can also produce dangerous waste that needs to be disposed of appropriately.

Durability of Powder coating

Because the powder coat bonds chemically to metal surfaces, it is one of the most durable coating options you can find. Apart from giving superior finish to metals, it also has good resistance against scratches, abrasions, and chips.

If you are looking to add custom colours to metals and appliances, powder coating is the best option. Feel free to get in touch with us to experience the advantages of powder coating or if you have any questions that you would like us to answer.

Less Wastage

Powder coat that is dropped or over-sprayed settles onto the ground and can be gathered back up and used again. The waste is also not hazardous and can be disposed of in the landfill. Since powder coating is completed in a booth environment, exhaust air can be recirculated back into the plant.

As powder coating is more durable, it lasts significantly longer than wet paint. This means that it does not need to be retouched or repainted anywhere near as often as wet paint would. Increased protective qualities also make powder coatings more desirable when a resistant finish is required. No costly waste management/cleaning system is required like that of wet paint.
